CITY OF LOCKPORT: Electrical problem closes bank branch for 1 day

The First Niagara Bank branch on East Avenue was closed Thursday after an apparent electrical short caused the building to lose power.

Employees at the 80 Washburn Street ATM building heard a “loud pop” in the basement Thursday morning, First Niagara Communications Manager Leslie Garrity said.

The sound was apparently an electrical short in the building’s NYSEG equipment, which serves both that building and the bank branch at 55 East Ave.

NYSEG had to shut down electricity to both buildings in order to work on the problem, Garrity said.

The electrical work was expected to continue into the late afternoon, so bank employees were sent home for the day.

Some critical employees went to other bank branches Thursday to complete their work.

The East Avenue branch was expected to reopen as usual today.
